The Venue

Bario lies in the Kelabit Highlands at the northern end of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. As there are no roads leading there, access is by air; the daily Twin-Otter flights from the coastal town of Miri operated by Fly Asia Express (FAX), which was previously known as the Rural Air Services of the Malaysian Airline System (MAS).

The people of Bario are highly hospitable; several tourist homestay lodges are in operation that offer simple but clean and comfortable lodgings.  Food is locally grown, or gathered from the forest.  The community also has highly developed event-management skills and there are plentiful venues for meetings, seminars and workshops.

Additional activities include trekking or strolling in the surrounding forest or between the longhouses; meeting the people and observing their lifestyle and culture. There are also opportunities for observing the highland flora and fauna.
